Business judgment. Deliberately developed.
EmPro exists because the way young lawyers develop business judgment is changing. Where apprenticeship once depended on repeated grubt work and eventually getting access to “the room” where business thinKing took place, AI has altered that pathway. EmPro is a deliberate response: a structured mechanism for developing one of the profession’s most important capabilities.
We always refer to lawyers, but we speak to all young professionals: the logic of judgment development is the same.
Why We Exist
A capability question created by an AI-enabled profession.
For generations, young lawyers acquired business judgment through experience, apprenticeship and repeated exposure to consequential business decisions. AI is changing that development pathway.
EmPro exists to help organisations respond by providing a deliberate mechanism for developing one of the profession’s most important capabilities: business judgment.
Who We Are
A team drawn from law, business, education and organisational development.
Core Team
Program design and oversight
EmPro’s core team designs the architecture of the program and oversees how each cohort is delivered. The aim is consistency, clarity and a high-trust participant experience.
Facilitators
Active interrogation of real decisions
Our facilitators create the environment in which participants interrogate real business decisions, challenge assumptions and explore alternative courses of action.
Mentors
Lived commercial responsibility
Our mentors are chief executives, founders, managing directors, board directors and senior executives who have carried real commercial responsibility and made consequential decisions under pressure.
Collective Experience
Leadership across sectors
Together, the people around EmPro bring decades of leadership across business, the professions, government and the not-for-profit sector.
What We Believe
Capability first. Program second.
Business judgment is not taught. It is developed.
It grows through repeated exposure to real decisions, thoughtful questioning, reflection and pattern recognition.
Professionals invest in capabilities, not programs.
Young professionals do not voluntarily invest their time simply because a program exists. They participate because they believe they are acquiring a capability that matters to their future.
That belief shapes the design.
Everything in EmPro is built around the value of the capability being developed: real decisions, live discussion, repeated exposure and enough spacing for patterns to form.
Business judgment develops through repeated exposure to consequential decisions. Everything about us is designed around this simple idea.
That idea sits at the centre of EmPro’s design: not theory in the abstract, but lived experience deliberately transferred.
How it works
Four facilitated 90-minute sessions over eight weeks. Each session centres on a real business decision examined through the eyes of the person who made it.
EmPro
Simplicity is complexity resolved.
